A nice story written in an easy to read manner.
The title of the book tells the reader how the story is going to end but there are several catastrophes and misunderstandings along the way.
The story starts in London but quickly moves to Truro where the heroine, April, goes to finish her training as a nurse after her father, and only family member, is killed in the Blitz.
April and three of her colleagues form romantic attachments with American soldiers who are stationed nearby. The treatment of Afro-Americans in both the USA and a small rural part of Britain adds interest and tension to the story.
This book does not tax the brain too much but is simply a pleasant, nostalgic, feel-good read.
