I found this really sad and harrowing. The naivety of Clem is really rattling because as the reader you know what is happening, it made my stomach squirm. My heart was breaking for Astor, desperately trying to protect her sister while trying not to terrify her. The relief I felt in the opening chapter was palpable!!
