I feel so dearly for the sisters Aster and Clem. Sold to the devil whilst still children. I found the inevitability of their fate quite depressing and upsetting. However, the writing was such, that I saw a small glimmer of hope. Maybe these girls can rise above their lot in life. I was drawn to the characters of both girls, hoping for them to have a happy ending. A book that is probably worth a second glance.
