This is an interesting opening to a.book, particularly because of the non-linear chronology of the chapters.
The book starts with an encounter between Clem, just turned 16, and a.client in the establishment she works in. Needless to say it is an unpleasant encounter and one which does not end well.
The extract then flips back to earlier in that day, with Aster (Clem's sister) trying to prepare her for what is going to happen.
This isn't exceptionally well written however there is.a sense of place and character created which is evocative of saloons and westerns, without any specific time frame of location being provided.
I enjoyed this, and the cover is perfection for the book (so far anyway!).
