The Good Luck Girls is a strong debut from Charlotte Nicole Davis. It follows sisters Clementine and Aster, their friends Tansy and Mallow, and fellow Good Luck Girl nemesis Violet as they make a run from their Welcome House - the place they're forced to live and work and where, on their sixteenth birthday, they are bought for the night by a brag. The story starts on Clem's sixteenth birthday, but her night doesn't quite go to plan as she kills the brag as he's forcing himself on her, and her and the other girls have to make a run for it. Forever marked by the flowers branded onto their faces, it's impossible for the girls to blend in as they make their way across the country in the hope of getting their favours removed and their lives back.

From the very first page I was impressed and drawn in by Davis' writing style. This novel is pacy and tense, and I was always on the edge of my seat following these girls. I also love these girls! It is such a good story of friendship, self made family, strong connections and sticking together, and I loved reading about them.

This is also a very rich, well built world. From the favours on their faces to the vegenants, the raveners, theomite, there are so many details which make up a layered and dangerous world.

I've heard this is the first in a series, and I've heard it's a standalone, but either way, I can't wait to read what Davis writes next. I'm sure it will be just as good!
