I loved this book! It’s been a while since I’ve read any fantasy and this definitely reminded me of how much I love it! A group of strong, intelligent girls escaping a life of prostitution in a dystopian fantasy, with heists, robbery, chases and victory.

I was introduced to a whole new world, one that resembled a dystopian state mixed with a fantasy reality. I found the first few a bit confusing, with some brief explanations but other references to elements such as ‘the Veil’ and ‘Remnants” without really knowing what they were!! But over the course of the novel I learnt a lot about this fantasy world, and I loved the way Davis added fantasy to a typical dystopian reality.

The book is from Aster’s perspective, and her internal struggle with her anger - towards men, her parents and the people in charge of the state - was well portrayed. Each character was well-crafted, and elements of their past were revealed throughout the novel, but I would have liked to know a little more about each!

This book definitely was a page-turner! The girls seemed to be constantly in trouble and escaping danger, and it set my heart racing as I read to see how they evaded capture! I definitely struggled to put it down once I got into it!

It was only kept from being a 5 star read for me because I found a few of their situations very unrealistic and oddly convenient. They robbed a bank, picked a lock to free themselves and lasted days without food and although it was gripping, I just found it a bit too unbelievable! It was still an entertaining and great read, and I am excited for the sequel!!
