I really enjoyed The Good Luck Girls - the characters and the world elevated this from what could have been a quite standard 'quest' novel. There aren't any surprises - not to say that it reads as predictable but I was a little disappointed not to encounter anything new. The usual suspects were here - the myth that's been passed down, the enigmatic stranger with a secret, the villain who will stop at nothing to destroy the protagonist.

Having said that, what lifts this story and makes it a page-turner are the characters. Having escaped from what is basically sex slavery, the girls are willing to risk anything to avoid recapture and execution. The lengths they go to are realistic and make this a gripping story. I'll be interested to see where the author takes the series from here.
