This is a western/fantasy/1800s mishmash of a genre, in a dystopian world of oppression and cruelty. I don't really know what to think. I liked the plot, I guess. I liked the characters ok. But where was the flavour?
The characters were all quite 2D. They only had one personality trait each, it was quite boring in places even though there was plenty of action.
The concept was so good I rounded this rating up to 3 from 2 stars. Badass women of all races destroying a racist patriarchy? Give me more.
Dead monsters roaming around spooky forests, ghosts trying to kill those out after dark? Definitely.
So 3 stars because it feels cruel to give two when I loved this concept.
The writing, although stilted in places did flow for the most part, and was very easy to read.
I liked how nicely the end tied up, because I know there is a book two but I think it can definitely be read as a standalone!
