This was sadly, middle of the road for me. The premise sounded super interesting and the cover is just so pretty, so I was very excited to dive in. The cast of characters is diverse and likeable, you can't help but root for them all, and want them to do what they have all set out to accomplish. The book is lacking, however, in the world-building aspect. There is not enough explanation about the magic system and the dead or how to communicate with them. We do have some back story, about how this world we are reading about, came to be, but I felt really lost at times and could not understand the magic and how it all works. It's still a great adventure of a book and I would recommend that you try it yourself.
