In The Heart Principle Anna comes across as a people pleaser, saying and doing the things that she believes people want her to say and do even to the extent of practising facial expressions. The author Helen Hoang and her daughter have both been diagnosed as having Autism Spectrum Disorder and she has tremendous insight to the fears and worries that can beset people. Anna is a violinist who became famous when her youtube went viral leading to a well known and respected composer composing a violin piece for her. A great honour which also comes with great expectations. Anna has hit a block and can't get past a certain point in the music. She feels her playing isn't good enough and goes over and over the beginning trying to achieve perfection. Despite attending therapy the situation isn't improving and to make her situation worse her long term boyfriend tells her he wants to take a break and see other people to make sure they're right for her. The author also introduces her readers to Quan who has just recovered from cancer of a personal nature which has made him uneasy about dating again. His friend tells him he needs to start seeing women again. Anna's friends have told her she should see other people as well. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of The Heart Principle and learn if Anna and Quan meet and help one another through difficult times in each of their lives and maybe even find love.
