The cover’s bright colour immediately commanded attention, drawing me in like a moth to a flame. The contrast of the yellow title with the pink background made the title more prominent and attention grabbing. For me, the book was very relatable in some aspects. The long, gruelling practice Anna does everyday mirrors the practice I do everyday. The feelings of a musician was perfectly captured in this book, especially not being able to start a piece from the middle. The most relatable part in this whole book for me was the following: “My life is in this box. The best parts. And the worst, too. The highest highs and the lowest lows. Transcendent joy, yearning, ambition, devotion, desperation, anguish. All right here.” Every time I open my instrument, this is what I feel. Something that I have never been able to define until I read this brilliant book.
