Not having read any of the other books I feel that I can read this as a stand alone novel in that the author,without making it too obvious,gives you some of the background of the characters and makes you feel what they are experiencing at that time-be it fear,smell and the overwhelming differences of the poor to the rich.
Now I not only want to know what happens in this book,but like other historical novels it gives you the impetus to find out more about our country and it's hisstory and I will certainly be looking for the other novels at some future date!
