This book is the latest instalment of a series, I will just mention here that I haven’t read any of the previous books. In no way did that impact on my enjoyment and understanding of this book, therefore in my belief this can absolutely be read as a stand-alone.
I read the book in a couple of days and found myself wanting to get back to it every time I put it down just so I could find out what was happening next with the story. If you’re not a fan of historical fiction or haven’t read much previously then this is an absolutely brilliant starting point. It’s descriptive, captivating and quite consistently interesting throughout. This is one that I would definitely recommend to people in the future. Very enjoyable.
