Unfortunately, this book was not for me. I stuck with the book and finished it, but I found it quite hard to get in to the story and rather confusing at points. I normally really enjoy historical fiction, but perhaps it was the style of writing from the period the story was based which did not gel well for me. I have not read any of the previous books in the series, so perhaps that also was a hinderance. The final few chapters I found the story came alive more and became much more enjoyable. I didn't find the characters very likable or relatable, apart from Ned and Rose. I loved their parts of the story, and felt the story could have delved in deeper for their sections or focussed on them further. The cover is great for this novel and is very striking. I would like to try to now read the first book in the series and see if I can get into the story more. The authors writing was very good, I just personally found it a little hard to get into.
