The Heretic's Mark is the fourth book in the series Jackdaw Mysteries series, and I was happy to give this book a try with an open mind, despite this being the first in the series that I have read myself. I do usually enjoy reading historical fiction novels; as a genre I usually enjoy the pace and novelty of famous historical characters being built upon in a fictional way.
I found the book to be very slow-paced, and I didn't find the storyline to be particularly gripping. Reading this as the first in the series, there are a number of events alluded to that I didn't fully comprehend, so this is probably more my fault, rather than the books'. I did enjoy the general writing style, and the oldly-worldly language; this helped pull me into the past and get into the feel of a 16th century narrative.
I did enjoy the character development, particularly of Bianca's character. Overall, it was a decent read, but it just wasn't for me.
