Thought provoking and frighteningly probable
I chose this for a taster read having read G.J.Minett's other book Lie in Wait.
That was a brilliant story of misplaced loyalty and cruel behaviour, beautifully written, fluid and thought provoking.
A hard act to follow, or so I thought......
The first page had me hooked.
Again returning to the thoughtless and often unkind actions of teenage years, a boy, isolated and a bit of an oddball can take no more humiliation from his fellow students.
He retaliates by setting his tormentors on fire.
Years later, and completely out of the blue, single working Mum to two growing and cheeky offspring Ellen Harrison receives a solicitors letter suggesting she may be a beneficiary in an old ladies will.
Curious, as you would be, Ellen makes contact only for the mystery surrounding her unknown benefactor deepens.
Not as unlikely a scenario as you might think, it can and does happen, it happened to me.....
