I found this book slow to start. I enjoyed that each individual character had chapters of their own so that each personality could be developed, but I found the main characters to be less interesting than the background husbands and children. The back drop of summer in France was beautifully written and the oppressive weather added to the atmosphere. The story of university friends getting together on holiday was a good one. Friends who have known each other for so long and then throwing their families in the mix for a week in a villa is great idea. Throw in an affair and there appears to be lots of suspicion and mistrust but I never quite believed the affair and was not at all convinced by the main character's dealing of the situation. The way the book is written is also not my normal style choice. There was a lot of "searching questions" that I begun to be slightly irritated by. I have heard good things about the author's other novels and would give them a go. Thank you for the opportunity to review.
