This book was a bit of a slow burner to start, of course I was intrigued by Kate’s husbands affair, but it took a little while for the intrigue to escalate. As the book went on, I found myself desperately wanting to know which of the three friends was the guilty party, yet i was left in the dark until the very end! The story was cleverly constructed, as the reader discovers at the end of the novel, that little loops had been sewn throughout the entire book - coming together to give the full picture at the close.

The characters were well developed, especially that of Kate, as the reader finds themselves fully empathising with her situation, and continually wanting to offer her comfort. I enjoyed the change of narrative that was interspersed throughout the story - hearing things from another’s point of view - as this only serves to add to the drama and intrigue. It also enabled the reader to get a true feel of the other characters in the story, too.

At the start of this book, although I was eager to uncover the identity of the mystery woman who was having an affair with Sean, I wasn’t sure if I was going to find myself completely gripped by the plot. However, this soon changed and things began to speed up a bit as the story became increasingly mysterious!

This book really serves the purpose of emphasising the dangers posed by lies, and also the changing nature of friendships over time. It scrutinises family relationships and deals with common themes such as loyalty, betrayal, adolescence, mental health and the underpinning power of both suspicion and accusations.

This is certainly a recommended read from me, as it’s not the usual run of the mill “whodunnit” thriller.
