I honestly cannot express how much I loved reading this book. I found myself talking about it to anyone who would listen and spending all of my spare moments trying to read a couple more pages.

This book is about four women that went to university together many years prior, who decide to go on holiday together with their partners and children. It seems like a normal holiday at first, but this is definitely not the case. When Kate, the protagonist, finds messages that suggest her husband is having an affair with one of the other women, everything about their holiday begins to unravel. When she finds out that someone is willing to commit a murder to keep their secrets from coming out, any sense of tranquility completely vanishes.

It may be considered an issue to some readers that all of the characters are incredibly dysfunctional and hiding an unbelievable amount of secrets, but I found that this just made the story even more captivating. Each character had individual problems that somehow created a gripping web of side-plots without undermining the main story. The children were written especially well, and I found myself deeply invested in their stories, and deeply afraid when they appeared to be in danger.

The main reason I'm giving this book five stars is not because of the plot or the characters, though. The writing itself was breathtakingly good. There were so many twists and turns in the story that could not be foreseen that it honestly felt like the author was toying with me simply because he could. It was frustrating but at the same time so impressive that I couldn't be annoyed.

I have already starting forcing this book on friends and family and 100% recommend it to anyone looking for a gripping read.
