Essentially as the cover says, The Holiday is about a group of long-term mates all taking a vacation together in France. With children, a cheating husband and suspicion aplenty in tow, we follow the story through the eyes of Kate who believes the other woman in the relationship is one of the friends she'll be staying with for the course of the trip.

An intriguing story that tries to unravel the secrets and complications of marriages and relationships, not only with the protagonist and her husband, but also with the friends that surround her and the teenage children who make up their family. The secluded villa lends itself as a great backdrop for the university friends' trip, and hints are subtly dropped throughout. There's a number of red herrings, suspicion and dysfunctional family drama peppered through the week-long vacation, all summarising in one killer.

Tension-filled, but somewhat contrite in its actual climax, The Holiday is a good pool-side read but not one I'd be hurrying to read again any time soon
