Kept me guessing!

The Holiday is a hard book to review as there were elements that I really enjoyed and elements I didn’t.

First of all the characters. None of them are particularly likeable and therefore if was difficult to really care about what happened to them. I found the MC Kate, annoying and she came across as paranoid. Although she had reasons to be suspicious she seemed to be very erratic and it was strange how she was willing to believe the worst in the people she is supposed to care about the most.

The pacing in the first half of the book was a little too slow for my liking and I thought more needed to happen sooner. The second half was much better and it became a page turner. The short chapters definitely helped get over the pacing issues.

The premise was a good one and was mostly well executed. Every time it appeared that the truth was going to be revealed, something else happened to throw suspicion in a different direction and the fact that we were kept guessing until the end was a reflection of complexity of the plot.

Overall this was an interesting story which kept me guessing until the end.
