I was tempted to buy this book by the idea of being transported to the South of France with the atmosphere of being on holiday, relaxing by the pool with blue skies and sun. But it was much more than that. Yes, it did cover the fun aspects of a summer holiday in France with enough local description to create atmosphere, but right from the start there were tensions and undercurrents, questions and twists (and having read the back of the book I was waiting for the murder!)

The characters in the book are all well developed and it is easy to feel involved in their lives. The main character is Kate, and although the reader is drawn into her doubts I did find some of her actions irritating. I also felt that her daughter Lucy's short diary-type entries didn't quite hit the mark. Having said that I read the whole book in one sitting and didn't guess the ending. I enjoyed it enough that I have already recommended it to a friend and would definitely try other books by this author.
