A child born in 'dark days'. A magical house which cannot remain hidden from the outside. This looks set to follow one character's journey through social change. The short passages bring out different aspects of the narrative and make each new piece of information stick in the mind.
'Tall Tales from Pitch End' was also about turning points in social unrest. The ideas McDowell wove around this have remained with me over the years. 'The House of Mountfathom' looks equally unique. McDowell's legacy may be small in quantity, but I think his books have paved the way for more imaginative dystopian fiction.
The cover seems to give importance to the cat. Having read the introduction, I hope there will be some interesting backstory.
