It didn’t take me long to get drawn into ‘The Household’; the writing swiftly reeled me in and left me longing for more. So far events have mostly involved introducing characters and the concept but it’s been done so beautifully that I’m sure that this novel will be one that’s impossible to put down. The characters involved are intriguing and seem well placed to give insight into the various social classes during the Victorian era. There was the surprising – to me, at least, - inclusion of Charles Dickens. And there were some glorious lines of inquiry mentioned that I’m curious to discover the truth behind. Naturally the major line of intrigue is what will happen between Angela and her stalker (particularly as such concepts always fascinate me) but there’s also the mystery of one of Martha’s sisters and the truth about Annie to discover too. Besides which I’m excited to discover everybody’s backstories and find out exactly how they came to be considered ‘fallen women’.

Previously I’ve also heard wonderful things about the author’s books and have been meaning to pick them up for quite some time. If the start of this novel is any indication then I’ve certainly been missing out.
