I very much enjoyed Stacey Halls’ previous books, and was so excited for an opportunity to read this early extract!

The Household looks set to be another historical page turner, and a book that I definitely want to continue reading. Stacey Halls is brilliant at combining characters you want to know more about, mystery, and intriguing stories with immersion in time and place.

Already I’m drawn in with questions about the different threads and how these will weave together and play out. Richard Dunn is a sinister and believable villain, and I expect there will be danger and tension from this story arc. The other characters so far are likeable, and I’d like to spend more time with them as their stories unfold. There’s not been much chance yet from the extract to do so, as the point of view rotates through them. I really enjoy stories with multiple angles like this, where the story moves quickly and different elements are revealed by different characters as the story threads converge. With such a skilled author I know that this will be done brilliantly here, and the novel will take the reader on a satisfying journey.

The cover is bold and distinctive (it is easily recognisable as a Stacey Halls book even though it’s very different from previous covers). It fits the time setting of the book and conveys a wealthy household.
