A breathtaking start to what promises to be another fabulously moving (and female centric) historical novel that I’m already eager to read more of.

The writing is as beautiful, which really comes as no surprise as all of Stacey Hall’s previous books have been just as detailed. The cast of characters seem really intriguing—especially sisters (Martha and Mary) and Angela, the benefactor of the refuge Martha currently resides in.

And from the opening chapters, I can already tell that I’m going to be emotionally invested in all three of their stories. I’m also a little obsessed the cover (which is absolutely stunning) so kudos to the designer/ publisher/whoever is responsible for creating it.
