The House Hold is the third book that I have read by Stacey Hall and whilst I didn't enjoy it as much as the other two, it never the less was a good read. I love how the author takes a subject from history, based on real facts, but looked at from a completely different perspective than the norm. Wonderful story telling brings the main characters to life as you learn about the stark contrast between life at Urania Cottage, a home for 'fallen' girls and the privileged life of Angela Burdett-Coutts, the home's benefactor. Life is hard in the mid 1800s and for many, life is hard and full of despair with young women having to make difficult choices just to survive. This social experiment highlights the hard life and appalling conditions of the have nots as opposed to the wealthy minorities.
Although I liked the look of the cover of this book, I did not feel it was a good representation of the story.
