Confused amidst the characters...

Well I'm rather sad to say that this didn't hit the mark for me...

Having read all of Stacey Halls' previous books, I was really excited to receive an early copy of The Household. But this reads different from her previous novels, and for some reason I felt as though the story just never got going.

There's lots of women in this book, and I had a difficult time remembering who was who and how they were connected to each other. It also felt as though there were too many sub plots going on, which didn't actually bring that much to the main storyline.

The author does however have a knack for bringing this time period to life and can evoke an atmosphere well enough. I just wish I had cared more for the characters and their fates, instead of feeling confused and distant from them.

As with all Stacey Halls' books, the cover art work is lovely, really like the endpapers design too.
