The Household by Stacey Halls is the third book that I have read by this author and like the other two it's an interesting and compelling read about a historical time that you may not have thought about before.
Firstly the front cover is very eye catching on the Hardback version, with its red and gold colouring, then I really loved the next page as you open the book, with its swirling patterns.
A bit further in we have a map of London in 1847, when this story is set. With now familiar names and showing you where exactly Urania Cottage was, as well as other buildings mentioned in the book. I liked this because it gave me a sense of knowing where everything was.
Urania Cottage was a house where women ( fallen women of the time) where sent. They were either prostitutes, thieves or just poor and unable to look after themselves. Martha is one of these women.
A captivating historical, sometimes dark and scary story. As Martha finds out to her cost.
A five star read from me.
