I’ve read other titles of Stacey Halls and I really do like how she weaves a story which brings together historical facts and storytelling. This is set in London in 1847 and brings together the life of the philanthropist Angela Burkett-Coutts who is a very wealthy woman that is one of the benefactors of Urania cottage, a home for ‘fallen women’. I love a story which is inspired by real historical figures, circumstances and events and I found this a very interesting read. So, I now know more about the good work of Charles Dickens and Urania cottage and having read this I felt I wanted to find out more about Angela Burkett-Coutts.
If you enjoy historical fiction I can fully recommend any of Stacey Halls books. The Household does not disappoint and I liked how women of different backgrounds were sympathetically portrayed without loosing the interest of the reader.
