Stacey Halls has to be one of my all time favourite authors and I've always found here novels to be very well researched and absolutely engrossing. The Household certainly fulfilled this criteria along with the others and thanks to Readers First for the advanced copy I've been able to get a sneaky preview of her latest offering, very happy!
The setting for the book is a large country house located just outside Lindon and the subject matter of fallen women in the mid 19th century provides plenty of subject matter and scope for the author to be able to use her skillful literary prowess to weave a wealth of intrigue and relationships. I really felt as though I was transported back to that time, and the well constructed and believable characters made the whole reading experience feel as though I was immersed in the plot. This is certainly, in my opinion, historical fiction at its best.
