An excellent, page-turner of a book.

This story chronicles the lives of fallen women, or unlucky women in other words who have had hard lives and struggled. Based on the true story of Ucrania cottage set up by Charles Dickens, this tale fictionalizes the lives of several women. It is a tale of friendship, family and sisterhood. The narrative picks up the various characters tales, leaves us on a cliff hanger and then switches to another perspective. This keeps the reader turning the pages and engaged with all the characters lives. We also hear about Angela Coutts, Dickens’ main finder of Ucrania cottage, although incredibly rich and privileged she too has her struggles. This is a book for anyone who enjoys historical or feminist fiction. A really enjoyable read.

I was kindly provided with an advanced reader’s copy of The House Hold by readers first. Many thanks, all opinions are my own.
