The household by Stacey Hall is an historical fiction novel that takes us to 17th century England to Urania cottage. It is written in present-tense third person which is personally not my favourite.
It is well written, with enriched details. The characters are likeable but as the story is written in multiple Points of view and perspectives I found it a little hard to keep track and follow. However each POV has its own story each as powerful as the next.
Urania cottage is a real place. I was not familiar or aware of the history of the fallen women of this cottage. The author has done a fantastic job portraying the struggles women at the time had to go through. An interesting fact is the connection to Charles Dickens who is mention in the book, yes THE Charles dickens.
It is a slow burn but once you get into it you will be hooked and intrigued to the very end.
