The front cover looks like a book that I would pick up in a bookshop - it doesn’t automatically go with the title, and is therefore intriguing. I like the idea of a Scot making a life for himself in the USA, especially after the start he had, and this whole other life that he had before America sounds very interesting. And the end of the excerpt just makes me want to read more!
