Enticing opening chapter
This is the sort of cover that would draw me to a book (the placement of the bicycle and the dog are intriguing) and the opening chapter confirmed this is the sort of book I'd be interested to read.
The reader is plunged straight into what feels like a scene of family disharmony and complicated relationships. Throw in possible work worries and you've got an interesting dynamic unfolding. I liked the banter between Johnny and Pauline; it felt real and genuine.
I like the style of the writing and the way the author has set up a number of possible directions for the storyline to go in.
