This is an engaging and different book that I thoroughly enjoyed. The story of a Florida couple who own an ice factory in Jacksonville and their attempt to keep the business going with the threat of closure following a leak at the plant which has left them with a huge environmental fine hanging over them. The husband (Johnny) who arrived in the US from Scotland after the end of his marriage and the wife (Pauline) struggle to keep going when he is diagnosed with a serious brain injury. He returns to Scotland to try and make amends with his estranged son who is recovering from drug addiction and is living in a remote part of Scotland with his baby daughter. It moves along at a great pace and although it sags a little in the 3rd quarter of the book – the last part of the story makes up for it. A really well written book and I will read the authors previous book (Heart of Palm). The characters are very believable and would highly recommend this book.
