I found The Ice House by Laura Lee Smith to be an extremely engrossing book. Every time I sat down for a few minutes I couldn't resist picking up the book to read a few pages which invariably turned into a few chapters. This story centres on one extended family and is split between Florida and Scotland so will definitely appeal to readers on both sides of the Atlantic. The author has everything here to guarantee both an enjoyable and thought-provoking read. There are family difficulties, health problems and business problems which could have been very downbeat but this book is so well written with plenty of light-hearted moments to relieve the tension. Every character has a story to tell and Laura Lee Smith does it brilliantly. I highly recommend this book.
