An intriguing opening chapter with possibly likeable characters. I like the set up of the characters, with their personality, voices, and the description. The author is adding dimension to them and setting up a situation with the son, which makes us want to follow the plotline.
I like the sound of Pauline, with her fiery personality but worry that the protagonist could end up being irritating, if only for his stubbornness.
