I loved this book!
This author, like Anne Tyler and Anita Shreeve, has the skill to write interesting, amusing and compulsive stories about everyday characters. This book is mainly about Pauline and Johnny MacKinnon who own an ice making factory in a run-down suburb of Jacksonville, Florida. The story covers only 2 months in their lives but the reader feels as though they understand their whole lives and those of their families, colleagues and acquaintances too. The easy-to-read narrative makes addictive reading, alternating between Johnny's business and health problems in Florida and his estranged son, Corran's dilemma in Scotland. The pages just kept turning and I feel bereft now that I have finished the book.
