Not the genre of book I usually pay a lot of attention to, but I was captivated from the start by the voice of the narrator; a spirited and independent-minded girl, plus assorted family and friends (and a dog). I need to read the rest of this book now. I feel that it captures something of the time period in which it is set, while still painting a picture we can relate to. I like the cover too.
