This is such a great feminist story and I loved it. This is such a great period novel with wonderful and memorable characters even though some of them were quite awful. It feels fresh when you read it! Ursula is the daughter of a lord and she spends her time getting muddy in the woods which was wonderful! She loves one boy but is told she must marry another man who is old and boring. At first I thought it was going to be a generic love story but the basic message was that Ursula didn’t need a man to feel complete which was so refreshing! I believe the period was accurate. It also explores some more serious issues as it deals with marriage and how it affected women of the period. The men Ursula associated with weren’t good but her father was portrayed as loving and progressive. I found it entertaining and I will most likely read it again.
