Actually, this was much better than I expected from the blurb. The writing flows well and the narrator seems reliable, witty and self-deprecating. Considering the subject matter it sounds very much like we are going to need that to get through.

I enjoyed the description of Link's school "chums" by the songs he thinks they would choose for Desert Island Disks - how could anyone choose just 8? It serves well to give us an insight in to both his opinion of them and how this reflects back on him.

Despite my initial reservations I am looking forward to reading more.
