This is about bullying, about privilege, and about what happens when people find themselves in a new and completely different situation where they have to adapt for survival. There are obvious comparisons with Lord of the Flies, in fact, when the main character finds himself trapped on a desert island with his classmates he makes several references to this book. The characters are mostly unpleasant and unlikeable (in a good way!), and I enjoyed the fact that even the victims are not painted as angels, especially the main character who behaves pretty badly for a while. I guessed the twist fairly quickly, but that did not spoil my enjoyment of what I thought was an inventive and entertaining book, even if the very ending was a little bit too much to swallow. I would like to read more by this author.
