I was intrigued by the First Look, but wasn’t sure that I’d enjoy the novel, particularly because of Stella’s issues. I am aware of the difficulties that do beset people with ASD and similar challenges in having relationships.
I was surprised to find that I did like Stella and Michael as characters, and they are surrounded by a great supporting cast. There are some wonderful cringeworthy comments, which I’m sure Helen Hoang has taken from her own experience..
I liked the gender swapped Pretty Woman plot, and had no issues with the steamy descriptions, although just occasionally they became a bit…really?!
Overall, I thought it was an enjoyable, spicy romance, carefully & thoughtfully written. I think it would make a good choice for a book club discussion- as long as all members are quite open minded!
