In trying to get her mother approval, the protagonist starts a journey of discovery and feelings that she never dare to dream or try before.
Feeling always apart socially, deprived from love,the main character decides to go on a different route to find hapiness and learn how to behave socially and emotionally. Being so intelligent adds strong difficulties to this character and the way to deal with this is probably the main focus of the book.
