Excellent historical fiction - on the surface about the Black Death and its devastating impact across Britain.
But underlying this - the social themes being discussed are excellent. Class issues, sexism issues - all about power and control. Also, the reminder of how small people's geography was then - not knowing about the next village - never mind the rest of the world!
Who would have thought there were left leaning feminists in the 14th century?
Or that there may have been experiments in socialism that brought better working conditions for all.
Also, mental health issues are explored and the impact of power and control of bullying men in charge - on the women around them - of all classes & of the peasant men too - who had to labour under those conditions.
Amazing approach to this period of history and can't wait to read the follow up - hopefully there will be one.
