A completely riveting read! For her first foray into historical fiction, I think Minette Walters has excelled! The writing flows effortlessly, the characters are compelling and have immense depth, the plot is engrossing and her historical descriptions reflect the amount of research conducted. A great exploration into human behaviour, especially when confined together. It's like a medieval big brother....with the Black Death thrown in!
I really hated some of the characters but in a good way. They were written in such a villainous way. The power struggles were brilliantly written, and kept me enthralled throughout.
I certainly hope this is the first of many historical fiction novels by Minette and I recommend it highly if you're a fan of Philippa Gregory, Ken Follett etc.
