It was a really good read with a new angle on Historical fiction, and deep characters. Some of the plot lines were laid on a bit thickly, but there was good interplay between them. A couple of unexpected plot twists along the way that i didn't see coming and a there is definitely an influence from the thrillers that Minette Walters is better known for.
My only disappointment is that it fished rather abruptly for a stand alone book and whilst its clearly the start of a series i would have preferred more closure for the threads particular to this book. It leaves a lot of loose ends which lay the ground for future books, but leaves the ending of this book a little wanting.
