Historical fiction based in the year 1348 in the county of Dorsetshire, England during the black death. Sir Richard travels to discuss a marriage proposal for his daughter, but unfortunately is unable to return home. His widow Lady Anne takes on a leading role during the plague, aided by the Serfs. Her daughter Anne on the other hand has enmity against her own mother and the Serfs. The story goes at a good pace and the author creates very interesting personalities, specifically that of Lady Anne. Through The Last hours we get to see the impact of the black death on all levels of socioeconomic status, as the plague does not differentiate between anyone, no matter how rich or poor.
This book was too good to put down and I recommend everyone interested in historical fiction to read!
