The title "The Last House Guest" in itself could open up a million different plotlines which entices the reader to read on and find out. The front cover is also enticing and grips the reader as it shows the sea which gives off the setting to be in a sea town area which is correct when reading from the extract.
Main character is Avery - who we don't know much about which in a way grips the reader even more as she is also a mystery in herself. She is attending a party waiting for her best friend Sadie, who does not show which Avery finds unlike her. When the party is coming to an end the police show and say that there is a problem and Sadie has been found and this is when we learn that she has died. Instantly, we assume that she has been killed. But there could also be a million other possibilities such as suicide, kidnap, murder by someone she knew already? The story fast forwards a year and we are met again with Sadie's brother, Parker who has strange behaviour. I would definitely want to read on.
